About Urchin
Located in one of downtown Seattle’s most vital design districts, Urchin has been a source of subtle and distinctively modern design since proprietor Karen Cho opened the store in 2005.
With an eye for organic minimalism and artisan detail, Karen has chosen designers and furnishings from across the country and internationally. The result is a sophisticated product selection presented with care and attention throughout the store.

Behind the scenes, Karen has made it her ambition to curate the work of a range of contemporary artists and designers—both established and independent.
“I love being a part of the designers’ process by supporting them as they realize their creative visions. I also want to provide a place where customers feel they can find something special and tangible, straight from the artist.”
Urchin features sought-after luxury brands like Italian design house Mandarina Duck and Mud Australia, as well as several up-and-coming designers.
How did the store get its name?
A delicacy in Japanese cuisine, sea urchin is a favorite of Karen’s mom. She regularly denies herself the simple indulgence, but Karen’s father never misses an opportunity to order the dish for his wife, because he knows how much it pleases her.
Urchin honors this simple and loving tradition by providing a place where people can indulge in little luxuries or find special and memorable gifts for any occasion.
